Norwegian Lost Baggage Compensation

Norwegian lost baggage compensation.

How much can you claim? What are the rules?

If your baggage goes missing during air travel, it can be a frustrating experience. There are several reasons why bags may get lost, including transfer errors, mishandling, or mislabeling. This can result in a negative travel experience as you wait by the baggage carousel hoping for your suitcase to appear.

What to do if your luggage is lost?

What to Do If Your Luggage Is Lost?

If your bag has gone missing, it’s important to act promptly.

Head to the Baggage Service Office which can usually be found close to the baggage carousels, and file a report immediately. Be sure to have your passport, boarding pass, and baggage tag ready, and if possible, provide a photo of your missing bag to speed up the process. If you don’t have a photo, a detailed description of your bag will be enough too.

Reporting is the most important thing in order to get lost baggage compensation.

Once you have reported the loss, you will receive a Property Irregularity Report along with a reference number. It’s essential that you don’t misplace this document, as you will need it for tracing your bag online.

Delivery arrangements will be made, but be aware that it may take 24 hours or longer to locate your missing bag. It’s important to be patient during the recovery process, as locating missing bag can take time.

Tracking Your Lost Baggage

Losing your bag can be a frustrating experience, but airlines have systems in place to track and recover lost bags.

You can track the progress of your lost bag online. Use the personal reference number on the Property Irregularity Report (which is given to you at the airport) to track your bag’s progress online using the airline’s online baggage tracing system.

The online tracking system will give you updates on the location and status of your bag, but if you have any concerns, you can contact the airline’s customer service team for further assistance.

Once the airline has found your baggage, they will contact you.

Norwegian Lost Baggage Compensation

What are your entitlements if your baggage is lost?

In some cases, the airline may need to compensate you for the loss of your baggage, so make sure you have a complete list of the items you had in your bag, as well as keep all relevant receipts and documents to support your claim. As always, it’s best to pack essential items such as medication, important documents, and valuables in your carry-on bag to minimize the impact of lost baggage on your travel plans.

Baggage Delayed for More Than 5 Days

If your baggage goes missing, Norwegian airport representatives will assist in locating it during the first 5 days. You can find their contact information on your Property Irregularity Report. If your baggage is still missing after 5 days, the Norwegian Baggage Department will take over the search.

Reimbursement of Expenses

In the event of lost baggage, passengers may need to purchase essential items such as toiletries, underwear, and clothing. This is known as delayed baggage compensation. However, it’s important to keep in mind that immediate payment may not be available.

It’s worth noting that the compensation only covers essential items that passengers cannot do without. Additionally, passengers should keep all receipts for any additional expenses incurred as they will be required to file a claim for reimbursement. If you don’t have the receipts, you can’t get back your money!

It’s crucial to file the claim for reimbursement within 21 days of receiving your lost baggage, so don’t miss this deadline.

Lost Baggage Compensation

It’s important to be aware of the compensation policies in case of lost luggage.

If your luggage is not located by Norwegian within 21 days, you may be entitled to compensation of up to €1300 for the lost items. However, to be eligible for this compensation, you must provide Norwegian with a detailed list of the contents of your baggage. It’s recommended to prepare this list in advance to avoid overlooking any items.

It’s important to note that Norwegian must pay this compensation directly to your bank account. Don’t accept any vouchers.

While compensation can help replace lost items, it’s not advisable to pack valuable items such as electronics, art, or jewellery in checked baggage, as airlines only compensates for a limited amount as defined by the Montreal Convention and the airline’s Conditions of Carriage.

In addition to lost baggage compensation, passengers may also file a claim for any additional expenses incurred due to the loss of their luggage. It’s crucial to keep all relevant receipts and documents to support the claim.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

Do you need travel insurance to claim lost baggage compensation?

Although it’s not mandatory, having travel insurance provides extra protection and coverage for unexpected events while traveling, such as lost luggage, replacing items, or medical emergencies.

Flight travel insurance is usually affordable or included in your debit or credit card benefits. Keep receipts for necessary purchases in case of loss or delay. Claiming expenses with your insurance provider may also be more efficient than claiming with the airline. Make sure to verify what your travel insurance covers.

But if you don’t have travel insurance, don’t worry, you can still claim lost baggage compensation from Norwegian.

Travel Prepared

Prepare for the unexpected when traveling.

Pack a change of clothes and undergarments in your carry-on bag, as well as important medication and valuables in case of delayed checked-in luggage.

Always keep in mind that it’s possible for your luggage to be lost or delayed during your travels, and plan accordingly to minimize any inconvenience.

What is your experience with baggage delays on Norwegian flights? Has Norwegian ever lost your baggage? Have you ever applied for “Norwegian delayed baggage compensation” (reimbursement of expenses in case of baggage delay)?

Please note that the rules for compensation for delayed or lost baggage with Norwegian are the same as those for other airlines. This is due to the Montreal Convention, which applies to the carriage of baggage on most international flights operated by Norwegian and other airlines globally.
